Our team at SOHK has come along side of these young people and developed long- term relationships them. Building trust and a sense of belonging that they have never experienced. We endeavor to instill in them self worth and love and many times we have to give them grace. We encourage them to finish school and counsel them to get through the internal garbage of their tragic childhoods. Through donations we pay for their school fees and training. We give them a foundation for the future. Helping them navigate how they can have hope for a bright future.
Other ways we have impacted the community is through providing church services every Sunday for the children of our community. We feed them spiritually and physically and give them lots of love too! We have helped needy children and adults with medical care and operations. SOHK has stepped in helping when children with life threatening diseases cannot afford medicines. Education is priority to us and when we are financially able we assist destitute children with school fees and uniforms.
We have collaborated with other organizations (NWHF, SWOK, HBK, RTR) in our community to provide much needed medical clinics, dispensed food to people suffering from the effects of AIDS. Assisted handicapped groups start small businesses so that they can support themselves and their families.
Assuring that all children in children’s homes and in school and their caretakers are learning and being counseled in how to best care for these children who have lived lives filled with trauma, abuse and abandonment are so important us so cycles ar not repeated. So we have organized and hosted many seminars teaching our caretakers and teachers how to deal with these issues in children so that they will be whole and happy adults in the future.
These are just some brief examples of ways we have given back to our community through our outreach program. When you partner with us you are making a impact on so many lives. I read recently
“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come.” ~Anne Lamott
I believe that life without hope this life is truly bleak and dark and I also believe that you and I are the hope the world needs. So lets not continue in Apathy but join together to give hope freely! Let’s not wait for God to part the river when God is waiting for us to get our feet wet! So lets just just show up and do the right thing!
Being a man or a woman is a matter of birth. Being a man or a woman who makes a difference is a matter of choice. ~Byron Garrett
Past the seeker as he prayed came the crippled and the beggar and the beaten. And seeing them… he cried, “Great God, how is it that a loving creator can see such things and yet do nothing about them?” God said, “I did do something. I made you.” ~Author Unknown
“To me, a faith in Jesus Christ that is not aligned with the poor … it’s nothing.” Bono, lead singer of U2
